Evaporation and concentration need large energy consumption for the pharmaceutical enterprises. In many enterprises, the energy consumption of evaporator account more than 60% of the total consumption of enterprise steam. At present, there are many pharmaceutical companies still use single effect evaporator which is not economic. Multi effect evaporator or MVR Evaporator will give much better energy saving performance than single effect evaporator.

1) Single effect evaporator

Single effect evaporator is mainly composed of a heater, heat exchanger, condenser, cooler and liquid tank. The raw material will be heated to boiling temperature, then go into the heat exchanger along with Tangent direction. The drop without vaporization, with large gravity will be thrown to the wall and fall down to the bottom of heat exchanger.

With circulation pump, some of the raw material liquid in the bottom will be transfer to feeding to heat exchanger again.

Some raw material will go into the liquid vapor separator. Where the vapor will be go to cooling tower; and the concentrated liquid will be tested and discharge if qualified.

 
 
 

It is obvious that the vapor only be used one time and discharge for cooling. This is the main problem why the single effect evaporator energy use efficiency is so lower.

2) MVR Evaporator

MVR is called Mechanical Vapor Re-compression. It use the centrifugal compressor to re-compress the secondary vapor(low temperature and low pressure) which is evaporated from the liquid material to rise its temperature and pressure, so as to reuse it as heating source to evaporate the liquid material again. The process is to convert a small amount of electric energy to more heat energy.

Theoretically, compared with single effect evaporator, MVR Evaporator can save more than 80% energy consumption and 90% cooling water.

 
 
 

Steam compressor is the key equipment for MVR Evaporator. There are different types of steam compressors for option, like centrifugal steam compressor, centrifugal blower, roots compressor etc. For different steam flow rate, different compression ratio and temperature rise, different compressor can show their advantages per special condition.
